The Global Sizing Gap Study

How well do your size charts actually fit the people wearing your garments?

The Global Sizing Gap Study is an independent benchmark of sizing performance across industrial workforces. Esenca Sizing invites workwear brands, textile rental companies, PPE manufacturers, and uniform providers to participate and receive a proprietary analysis of how well their existing sizing systems serve their actual workforce.

The Problem

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Most industrial size charts were never built for the people wearing them.

They were inherited from suppliers, copied from outdated standards, or developed from datasets with no direct relevance to your workforce. The result is a gap between what your size chart assumes and what your workers actually measure that leads to returns, exchanges, re-fittings, safety risks, and unnecessary costs.

The Global Sizing Gap Study exists to measure that gap.
And close it.

What the Study Does

Participants submit their size charts and collect body measurements from their workforce using Esenca Sizing’s technology. We analyse the relationship between real anthropometric data and your existing sizing system and deliver a report that tells you exactly where your sizing works, where it fails, and what to do about it.

This is not a generic industry report. Every participant receives analysis based on their workforce, their own size charts, and their own garments.

What You Receive

Every participant receives a Fit Intelligence Report covering:

Population Coverage Analysis

Overall coverage rate, identification of underserved workforce segments, and mapping of ambiguous size assignments: the cases most likely to generate returns and complaints.

Size Chart Quality Assessment

Identification of redundant sizes serving substantially overlapping populations, phantom sizes with negligible demand, and opportunities to simplify or restructure the size range while maintaining workforce coverage. The analysis highlights where the current size architecture creates unnecessary complexity and where adjustments could improve coverage efficiency.

Population Coverage Analysis

Identification of natural body shape clusters within your workforce and evaluation of whether a single linear size chart can serve them — or whether fit profiles, shape-based sizing, or alternative cuts would unlock better coverage.

Statistical Confidence & Benchmarking

Assessment of whether your measured sample accurately represents your workforce, with anonymous benchmarking against aggregated data from all participating organisations.

Impact participants also receive

Commercial Impact Assessment

Return and exchange reduction potential in both percentage and estimated financial value. Lost demand analysis identifying workforce segments no current size fits well. An optimal size curve for production and inventory planning. Direct comparison between your existing sizing approach and Esenca’s recommendation system.

Complete & Enterprise participants also receive

Garment Intelligence Analysis

For participants who provide physical garment samples, the analysis extends to garment-level ease, intended vs. actual fit, and critical fit point diagnostics per garment type — the deepest level of sizing intelligence the study delivers. A complete size run of one garment is enough to unlock this analysis.

What We Need From You

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Size Charts

Your existing size charts for one brand, collection, or product category — workwear, uniforms, PPE, outerwear, trousers, shirts, or similar. Up to five size charts per participant.

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Calibration Sample

A minimum of 30 people — ideally 15 men and 15 women — who actually wear the garments in their daily work. This step calibrates Esenca’s measurement system to your specific garments before the full workforce measurement begins.

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Workforce Measurement

A minimum of 100 individuals were measured using Esenca’s browser-based body measurement technology. No hardware, no app installation, no technical expertise required. We provide full onboarding support.

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Impact Tier (Optional)

Historical business data: return rates, exchange rates, size sales distribution, and inventory allocation.

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Complete Tier (Optional)

Physical garment samples: one complete size run per garment type. Two to three representative garments are recommended for the most comprehensive analysis.

The Global Sizing Gap Study

Enterprise Tier (Optional)

Historical business data and physical garment samples: return rates, exchange rates, size sales distribution, inventory allocation, and one complete size run per garment type.

How It Works

1. Apply

Submit your interest. We confirm your eligibility and assign a programme contact.Submit your interest. We confirm your eligibility and assign a programme contact.

2. Submit Size Charts

Share your existing size charts for the collection or category you want to analyse.

3. Calibration

A sample of 30 people who actually wear the garments is measured first. This calibrates Esenca’s system to your specific garments before the full measurement begins.

4. Measure Your Workforce

Once calibration is complete, your team collects measurements from a minimum of 100 workers using Esenca’s browser-based technology. We provide full onboarding support.

5. Receive Your Report

Within an agreed timeframe following the completion of measurements, you will receive your Fit Intelligence Report.

6. Act on the Insights

Your report includes concrete next steps: which sizes to add, remove, or adjust; where to regrade; how to reallocate inventory; and how much improvement you can expect.
